The Bible Project: Matthew 14-28
Part two of the book of Matthew shows Jesus challenging false views of how he will bring about his Kingdom and clashing with religious leaders. Jesus says that he is a suffering servant King, in fulfilment of Old Testament prophecies. He is crucified on a cross, but this is all within God's plan, fulfilling scripture, and Jesus gives his life as a sacrifice for his people, so they will not die eternally. Finally Jesus defeats sin and death by rising from the dead. He commands his followers to go and tell all nations that he is the King and that anyone can be a part of his Kingdom by being baptised and obeying his teaching. Matthew was a Jew, and one of Jesus' disciples, in his narrative of Jesus' life he shows that Jesus is the continuation and fulfilment of the whole biblical story about God and Israel, as outlined in the Old Testament.
