This one of Paul's letters was written to a number of churches in the region of Galatia where Paul had travelled on one of his missionary journeys. Before Jesus came God's people were the Israelites who were marked out from the nations around them by circumcision and other laws. In Paul's time there were as many non-Jewish Christians as there were Jewish-Christians, and the Galatian churches were under pressure to conform to Jewish laws or be considered outside of God's people. This letter is Paul's response to correct that false teaching, focussing everything on Jesus and how it is only through him that people are transformed and made new.
