The Bible Project: Obadiah Overview
The shortest book in the Old Testament, Obadiah's poems against Israel's neighbour Edom stand at just 21 verses. However it packs a punch. Descending from Jacob and Esau, brothers and sons of Isaac (Genesis 25-27), the nations of Israel and Edom replayed the same difficult relationship of their ancestors. However despite tensions they still shared a family bond, but that bond that was betrayed and shattered when Edom participated in the Babylonian invasion of Israel. Obadiah stands as accuser of Edom and to all nations which follow them in pride and self-exaltation.
