Keswick '10 - Alistair Begg 3: Bible Reading
Romans 8 – The main talks from the Keswick Convention 2011. In 1862 Octavius Winslow prefaced his studies in Romans 8 as follows: “It would, perhaps, be impossible to select from the Bible a single chapter in which were crowded so much sublime, evangelical and sanctifying truth as the eighth of Romans. It is not only all gospel, but it may be said to contain the whole gospel. In this brief but luminous space is embraced an epitome of all the privileges and duties, trials and consolations, discouragements and hopes of the Christian.” This well-known chapter provides a vantage point from which to view the panorama of God’s purposes for his children. Here we find our present sufferings set in the context of a hope that stands the test of time. Here our weaknesses and our disappointments are seen in light of God’s eternal purpose to make us like Jesus. In following this trail which begins with ‘no condemnation’ and ends with ‘no separation’ we will, by God’s grace, be able to report that like the view from the summit of Scafell Pike, it has been ‘worth the climb’.
